1. The core idea
Everything you need to learn for a tech career is free — MIT OCW, fast.ai, CS50, vendor academies.
Money should only buy attestation, and only where it changes an outcome. This site separates
those two decisions: learn here for free, attest there for money, and never confuse a completion
trophy with a credential that carries weight.
2. How employers see it (the three bands)
Every credential sits in one of three bands — not a score, a plain-language read of employer recognition:
- HR-recognized
- Recruiters know it on sight; it opens interviews (AWS/Azure/CompTIA/ANAB/NVIDIA/Anthropic).
- Respected
- Proves real knowledge to a technical reader; HR may need it explained (Hugging Face, DeepLearning.AI, fast.ai, Stanford).
- Signal
- Completion trophy; shows effort, weak standalone proof (most free MOOC badges).
A free credential can be HR-recognized. A paid one can be only Signal. That gap is the trap this site exists to warn about.
3. "Free" decomposes three ways
- free content + free credential
- Genuinely free end-to-end (rare, valuable).
- free content + paid credential
- Learn free, pay only to attest (the strategic sweet spot).
- free content + no credential
- Learn free, prove it with a project instead.
4. The 4-slot build
● Trust AnchorAn accredited or high-rigor credential.
● Ecosystem MatchesVendor certs for target employers.
● Currency LayerCerts that signal ongoing learning.
● Proof SlotA project where no credential exists.
5. Honesty
- Every resource is URL-verified before it appears (no URL, no row).
- Judgment fields render "pending" until adjudicated — never guessed.
- Absences are first-class content, with a proof prescription.
- Static site, zero external resources, no tracking. Works offline.
